The Iridium constellation of 66 low-earth orbiting (LEO), cross-linked satellites operates as a fully meshed network and is the largest commercial satellite constellation in the world.
The Iridium service is ideally suited for industries such as maritime, aviation, government/military, emergency/humanitarian services, mining, forestry, oil and gas, heavy equipment, transportation and utilities. Iridium provides service to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Iridium delivers essential communications services to and from remote areas where no other form of communication is available. Iridium Satellite LLC is the only provider of truly global satellite voice and data solutions with complete coverage of the Earth (including oceans, airways and Polar Regions). Iridium offers an ideal communication solution for near-real-time data acquisition from remote assets and instrumentation, fixed or mobile, anywhere on the planet. Fastwave is Australia's only authorised Iridium Value Added Manufacturer and Service Provider.
Iridium is the only satellite system offering global, bi-directional, near-real time telemetry options for fixed and mobile data acquistion applications. The compact, low power transceivers and omni-directional antennas make it particularly suitable for mobile instrumentation platforms, such as autonomous unmanned airborne and maritime vehicles, as well as M2M applications with remote sensor sites.
There are four primary Iridium satellite modems available, the 9522 B, the 9523, the 9602 and 9603.
All of these offer global, near-real time, 2-way data capability for asset monitoring, control and tracking applications.
The 9522B and 9523 support Short Burst Data (SBD) and Circuit Switch Data telemetry systems, as well as Iridium Satellite Voice & SMS services. They are ideal for applications which require connectivity with remote equipment for diagnostic monitoring, reconfiguration and data streaming. The 9523 is more compact and lower power than the 9522B.
The 9602 and 9603 support Short Burst Data only, but are significantly smaller, lighter and lower power than the 9522B and 9523B.
Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) is a simple and efficient network transport capability for transmitting short data messages between equipment and centralized host computer systems.
SBD is a data service that is designed for applications that require data messages of a smaller size or with greater frequency than is economically possible with circuit switched data services, or where there is no terrestrial communication infrastructure available for applications requiring data telemetry.
SBD is intended for integration into vertical market applications, in industries such as Oil & Gas, Utilities, Transport, Agriculture, Environmental monitoring and Maritime. Remote applications send and receive messages by using an Iridium 9522 or 9602 L-Band Transceiver(LBT).
The primary benefits of using RUDICS as part of a data solution over conventional PSTN circuit switched data connectivity or mobile-to-mobile data solutions:
RUDICS is an Iridium data service that allows customers to send and receive data traffic over the Iridium network using an optimized circuit switched data channel. It utilizes circuit switching technology via a dial-up modem and ISDN for low-bandwidth data transfer for ISUs, enabling a host application to originate and terminate numerous connections simultaneously. This solution utilizes Network Access Servers to provide modem ports, supporting both Mobile-Originated (MO) and Mobile-Terminated (MT) Circuit Switch Data calls.
Powered by the world’s furthest reaching network, the Iridium Extreme® PTT is engineered to support high intensity users with the world’s first global push-to-talk service as well Iridium’s standard global voice calling, SMS and SOS.
When using PTT, the handheld device gives your team access to unparalleled situation awareness and control features, including:
Only Iridium can deliver push-to-talk the way it was meant to be, without the expense and limitations of traditional ground-based towers and repeaters.
Fast time-to-market is a critical need in today’s evolving asset tracking and fleet management environment. Iridium Edge features an all-in-one Short Burst DataSM (SBDSM) modem and antenna, with power supply. The plug-and-play satellite IoT device can be easily paired with existing satellite and cellular solutions, without complicated integration or development requirements.
Leverage the power of the world’s furthest reaching network to extend the high value of intelligent data beyond the barriers of terrestrial networks.
Designed to be integrated into end user applications, this range of proven hardware allows partners and customers to quickly utilize Iridium’s unrivalled global network to communicate with their assets in virtually any market.
