Iridium Short Burst Data

Global, bi-directional, near real time data system

Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) is a simple and efficient network transport capability for transmitting short data messages between equipment and centralized host computer systems.

SBD is a data service that is designed for applications that require data messages of a smaller size or with greater frequency than is economically possible with circuit switched data services, or where there is no terrestrial communication infrastructure available for applications requiring data telemetry.

SBD is intended for integration into vertical market applications, in industries such as Oil & Gas, Utilities, Transport, Agriculture, Environmental monitoring and Maritime. Remote applications send and receive messages by using an Iridium 9522 or 9602 L-Band Transceiver(LBT).

The service is designed to provide a low cost 2-way packet data communication between remote assets, sensors or equipment and monitoring/control processes.

The service can incorporate a GPS signal, making it ideal for tracking and fleet management applications.
