About the Iridium Satellite System

The Iridium constellation of 66 low-earth orbiting (LEO), cross-linked satellites operates as a fully meshed network and is the largest commercial satellite constellation in the world.

The Iridium service is ideally suited for industries such as maritime, aviation, government/military, emergency/humanitarian services, mining, forestry, oil and gas, heavy equipment, transportation and utilities. Iridium provides service to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Iridium Certus Broadband....a new mobile satellite broadband service from 2017

 Iridium Certus will provide mobile broadband service anywhere in the world, using the Iridium NEXT constellation. It will support data speeds as high as 1.4Mbps, more than 10x faster than the current Iridium OpenPort service, and over 140x faster than most Iridium data services used for remote data acquisition from mobile devices. Certus will offer a paradigm change in data acquisition capability from remote sensor platforms whether they are at sea, in the air or on land.
