Iridium Satellite Transceivers

 

Iridium is the only satellite system offering global, bi-directional,  near-real time telemetry options for fixed and mobile data acquistion applications. The compact, low power transceivers and omni-directional antennas make it particularly suitable for mobile instrumentation platforms, such as autonomous unmanned airborne and maritime vehicles, as well as M2M applications with remote sensor sites.

 There are four primary Iridium satellite modems available, the 9522 B, the 9523, the 9602 and 9603

All of these offer global, near-real time, 2-way data capability for asset monitoring, control and tracking applications.

The 9522B  and 9523 support Short Burst Data (SBD) and Circuit Switch Data telemetry systems, as well as Iridium Satellite Voice & SMS services. They are ideal for applications which require connectivity with remote equipment for diagnostic monitoring, reconfiguration and data streaming. The 9523 is more compact and lower power than the 9522B.

The 9602 and 9603 support Short Burst Data only, but are significantly smaller, lighter and lower power than the 9522B and 9523B

The Iridium 9522B satellite transceiver is ideal for sending and receiving voice and data from equipment everywhere on the planet. It functionally supports all of Iridium’s voice and data services and easily integrates into a wide variety of applications through a RS232 serial interface and AT command set. Available to registered Iridium partners.

Iridium 9602 Short Burst Data Modem

The Iridium 9602 SBD transceiver, designed to be integrated into a wireless data application with other host system hardware and software, provides a complete solution for a specific application or vertical market. The Iridium 9602 is ideal for M2M solutions, including tracking of maritime vessels, equipment monitoring, and automatic vehicle location.

Iridium 9603 -  Short Burst Data 

One-fourth the volume and half the footprint of the Iridium 9602, the innovative Iridium 9603 transceiver combines the global coverage of the Iridium satellite constellation with the low latency of the Iridium Short Burst Data Service to provide highly reliable satellite communications from pole to pole.

With the smallest form factor of any commercial satellite transceiver available today, the Iridium 9603 is ideal for space-constrained applications including monitoring, tracking and alarm systems. It is also highly affordable, costing just slightly more than the previous-generation Iridium 9602.

Hughes 9502 M2M Transceiver

The 9502 offers low cost, high bandwidth telemetry for fixed site M2M applications, using the Inmarsat BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) system.

 

 The Hughes 9502 includes 10 meters of RF cabling, granting the user freedom to position the antenna remotely and away from the transceiver in complex installations while securing the SIM card inside a premise or enclosure to better protect against unauthorized use, theft, and vandalism.

 

Future firmware releases would be uncommon, meanwhile any such modem update will qualify for no charge over-the-air (OTA) upgrades saving customers time and money. At less than a penny or two per kilobyte, customers cannot find better value from comparable technologies.
